MP proposes ban on smoking in private cars

The MPs decide to toughen the Law on smoking. A legislative initiative of Democrat Iurie Bolboceanu stipulates fines from 2000 to 3000 lei for drivers who smoke inside cars with children under the age of 16, or pregnant women. The bill was forwarded to Parliamentary commissions for debates. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Iurie Bolboceanu stated that the initiative aims at protecting children and pregnant women from the harmful effects of passive smoking; the concentration of toxins in a vehicle, in which someone is smoking, may be up to eleven times higher than in a bar, for example. Other statistics show that drivers who smoke during driving are under a higher risk of car crash, since they aren’t paying as much attention to the road.
