Deputy Speaker Mihai Popșoi (PAS) says Parliament must interrupt its summer recess and convene in order to adopt relief measures demanded by drought-stricken farmers.
Popșoi criticized the government for the “incompetent” and “arrogant” approach to managing this situation, saying the crisis could have been prevented had farmers’ problems been addressed in a timely manner.
MP Vladimir Bolea (PSRM), member of Parliament’s Agriculture and Food Industry Commission, said that one of the demands put forward by the protesting farmers has been the adoption of force majeure legislation. Such a bill has already been developed by the Ministry of Economy and submitted for Parliament to consider at its next meeting. Farmers have also requested a rescheduling of loans.
Another measure in development is a moratorium on fiscal inspections at the affected entrepreneurs. The proposed measure is currently being consulted with the IMF.
Vladimir Bolea said solutions are also in preparation to aid the animal husbandry sector as well.
