MP Petru Stirbate leaves Liberal-Democratic faction

MP of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Petru Stirbate announced that he leaves the faction. In a press statement, quoted by IPN, the lawmaker says he will serve as an independent MP and will continue to support the pro-European course.

The statement says that Moldova is at a critical moment, when the political class faces an acute credibility crisis, when the people feel betrayed by those whom they voted and when the despair replaced the hope for which the people voted in a large number in 2009.

“The party of which I form part is unfortunately not ready to get out of the vicious circle in which it stayed for too long. As the other ruling parties, the PLDM is in a serious credibility crisis and there is no internal will to overcome it. But time works not in favor of the parties, but against Moldova already. If we stay aside and wait for the development partner to do reforms in our country, this crisis will become deeper,” said the lawmaker.

Petru Stibate noted that he will further support the pro-European government, but will vote only for bills that are for the people’s interests. “I think the current government must work under the pressure and full control of the people and must get out of the influence of the parliamentary coalition that was negotiated non-transparently, where they ‘arrange’ everything, from posts to other interests,” reads the statement.

Now that Petru Stirbate leaves the faction of the PLDM, the three parties of the Alliance for European Integration will hold together 51 seats of MP.
