Marina Tauber was stripped of parliamentary immunity to be tried in the criminal case started against her over interference with the administration of justice. Parliament adopted a relevant decision for the criminal case to be sent to court, IPN reports.
The decision comes after interim prosecutor genera Ion Munteanu made a request to strip the MP of immunity. According to the procedure, the request and the submitted materials were forwarded to the legal commission for appointments and immunities, which came together for a meeting. Marina Tauber participated in this.
In the Parliament’s plenary sitting, which lasted until 11 p.m., the acting prosecutor general said that the investigation in this criminal case was started on May 2, 2023. In April 2023, the MP, using her position and aiming to prevent the examination of the criminal case accusing Ilan Shor, interfered in the trial of the case at the Chisinau Court of Appeals. “MP Marina Tauber entered the courtroom and, using a megaphone, delivered offensive and threatening messages to the panel of judges and the state prosecutor. She said: “Down with the corrupt judges!”, “Down with prosecutors!”, said Ion Munteanu.
He also said Marina Tauber threatened the panel of judges with blocking the trial by saying that 3,000 supporters were waiting outside. As a result, the judges had to interrupt the hearing and withdraw from the courtroom, subsequently classing those actions as attempts to obstruct justice.
In her speech, the parliamentarian said that it is a laugh-and-cry file and Moldova will go down in history with such actions of the Prosecutor’s Office, which are supported by the government. According to her, actions to lift immunity take place all the time around elections, which are actually a free competition. “So much aggressiveness, so many actions against MPs whose immunity is lifted. It can be seen that you have something personal against Mr. Shor and against us. You will never come and lift the immunity of other MPs, even if other PAS MPs break the law. It is clear that this is political pressure,” stated Marina Tauber.
Marina Tauber was also stripped of parliamentary immunity in other criminal cases. One of the criminal cases against her is under investigation and the MP was charged in this. In another case, the investigation was discontinued on the grounds that the act did not contain elements of a crime. Another criminal case accusing Marina Tauber and the legal entity “Shor Political Party” was sent to court.
