Besides the lawyers from the Republic of Moldova, a lawyer from the UK will also represent MP Ilan Shor in court. This is Shaul David Brazil of the law firm BCL Solicitors LLP.

In a news conference hosted by IPN, lawyer Aureliu Colenco said legal assistance in the Republic of Moldova will also be offered by the famous British law firm. “Justice in the Republic of Moldova has been captured. This is proven by statements of judges who work in the Republic of Moldova. This fact is also known by the general public – dubious deeds and names in the justice system, procedural violations committed by courts of law when examining the case of Ilan Shor,” stated the lawyer.

According to him, the lawyers are put in disadvantageous situations against the prosecutors. The fundamental rights of the lawyers and the accused are violated. “All these facts made our client, at the lawyers’ insistence, to contract a world-famous firm of lawyers from the UK - BCL Solicitors LLP. It ranks third in England and Scotland by the number of won cases,” said Aureliu Colenco.

The lawyer expressed his conviction that the British lawyers will help bring the witnessed wrongdoings to an end and access to independent justice will be ensured. “Judging by the way in which the hearings take place and the mentioned criminal cases are tried, we intuit that the state subdues justice and forces the judges to swifter adopt a solution without perceiving the essence of evidence and the material of the case file. That’s why we hope we will yet have a legal trial on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and the judges will think a little about what they do before the lawyers from Moldova and the UK. This will be the face of justice of the Republic of Moldova in relation to other states’ justice,” noted Aureliu Colenco.

Lawyer Shaul David Brazil said that they have been instructed by Ilan Shor to advise and represent him in his legal proceedings in Moldova, including specifically in his defense to the allegations contained in the indictment and to ensure that his human rights are respected and protected. “Our role will be to identify, prevent and take steps to challenge violations of Mister Shor’s rights under the European Convention of Human Rights and other international treaties to which Moldova is a party,” stated the British lawyer.

“That instruction requires us to undertake a comprehensive review of the case file, which amounts to numerous volumes of material and that work is ongoing. Nonetheless, as we remained at a relatively early stage of reviewing the material, we have been informed by Mister Shor’s Moldovan representatives that numerous violations of his fundamental rights have already occurred, which would not be committed in England or around the European jurisdictions,” said Shaul David Brazil.

According to the lawyer, given the scale and complexity of this case, they will be applying to the court for a short adjournment of the proceeding to give them time to review the case file and prepare submissions on Mister Shor’s behalf.
