The Liberal Party nominated its vice president Ion Purice; the European Social Democratic Party nominated Vadim Brînzaniuc, former head of Chisinau sector; and the Socialist Party fielded MP Adrian Albu.

Other contenders in the race are former acting Chisinau mayor Ruslan Codreanu, and ex-Communist MP Mihail Poleanschi on behalf of the Civic Congress party.
