MP denounces widespread violation of linguistic rules in advertisement

Until now, no advertisement agency has been sanctioned for breaking linguistic standards in advertising, although a Law, which stipulates fines for placing advertisements only in a foreign language or if the foreign language is predominant over the official one, is in effect for two months. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the author of this legislative initiative, MP Valeriu Munteanu stated that he is monitoring this issue. "The Law is clear, and if it is not enforced it means they’re not doing their job", said the Liberal MP. According to Valeriu Munteanu, linguistic standards in advertising are often violated, some locations in Moldova being filled with billboards that are written in Russian. The Law stipulates fines from 400 to 3000 lei for individuals, and 6000 to 10,000 lei for legal entities.
