Unaffiliated MP Alexandr Nesterovski, who on Wednesday was sentenced to 12 years in prison, was put on the international wanted list. The information was confirmed for IPN by the head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu, IPN reports.
By the judgement pronounced by the Buiucani Court of Chisinau City, MP Alexandr Nesterovski, who is close to Ilan Shor, was sentenced to 12 years in a closed prison and fined 500,000 lei.
The hearing took place in the absence of Nesterovski. The police were to find him and take him to the prison in order to serve the sentence issued to him. The MP, however, was not found.
At a press conference on Thursday, MP Vasile Bolea, who is also close to the fugitive politician Ilan Shor, said that he does not know the whereabouts of Nesterovski and that, from the beginning, this trial was political in character.
Alexandr Nesterovski’s lawyer Iulian Pociurca said that he does not know where his client is.
Meanwhile, the head of the parliamentary commission for security and public order Lilian Carp in a TV program said that Alexandr Nesterovski could be yet in the country as the MP reportedly did not legally leave the Republic of Moldova.
Alexandr Nesterovski was stripped of parliamentary immunity in 2023. He was accused of passive corruption in particularly large proportions, in the interests of an organized criminal group, and of preparing the financing of political parties from sources prohibited by law, committed in large proportions.
According to prosecutors, in addition to the fine of 500,000 lei, the special confiscation of the equivalent of US$35,000 was ordered.
The sentence can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeals within 15 days.
