Movie “January Dream” to be screened at Gaudeamus

A historical film about 1848 titled “January Dream” will be shown at the Gaudeamus Cultural Center in Chisinau on February 17. Entrance is free of charge. The screening will take place within the program “The Romanian Film Caravan in Moldova – Romanian Movies in Chisinau,” Info-Prim Neo reports. The movie is about Romanian students in Paris, who were inspired by the revolutionary ideas of Nicolae Balcescu. It relates the story of a young man named Nicu Vernescu, who was banned from entering the Principate of Moldova because of his work. Nicu returns to the country with a forged passport and intends to print and disseminate the discourse that Balcescu gave at the Romanian Library in Paris on the New Year's Eve. Made in 1978, the movie was directed by Nicolae Opritescu. It will be presented by lecturer, doctor and film critic Manuela Cernat, the daughter of writer Anda Boldur and writer and diplomat Iosif Igirosianu, who was the first charge d'affaires of Romania in France in the post-war period. The movie will be screened in cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, starting at 6pm.
