The movable and immovable cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova needs to be identified and cataloged electronically and on paper. The opinion was expressed by Liliana Condraticova, scientific secretary general at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, during the international scientific conference "Cultural Heritage of Yesterday - Implications for the Development of a Sustainable Society of Tomorrow", which is held at the National Library.

According to Liliana Condraticova, amendments to the Law on monuments, which was adopted in 1983, are being drafted. "In order to leave a good heritage and put it in the use of the society, a joint effort on all levels is necessary", said the scientific secretary general of the AȘM.

Elena Pintilei, the director of the National Library, claims that the "national treasure", the written national heritage, is kept in the library. "We promote our national heritage, as part of the common European one, over the course of the European Heritage Days that are underway. Today's conference is a scientific action that will surely raise awareness among the relevant bodies, on central and local levels and among the scientific community”, said Elena Pintilei.

University professor Elena Chiaburu, from the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iași, said that "the movable or immovable national cultural heritage is extremely important, it is our mark in history and we are responsible to do everything we can in order to preserve it in its initial state”.

Nicoleta Vornicu, director of the T.A.B.O. R. Research Center in Iași, considers that the event is important for "the development of strategic thinking and cultural policies which aim to better understand European strategies, but also has the intention to identify tools and platforms for heritage transformation as a source of sustainable development".

The conference proceedings take place from September 23 to 24.
