Motorcyclists to meet at European motocross championship in Hancesti

The Hancesti mayor’s office, the Motocross Federation of Moldova and the motocross sports club “Enduro-Cross” are staging the tenth Southeast Europe Motocross Championship that will involve athletes from 11 countries. The event will take place in Hancesti on October 19, starting at 10am.

In a news conference at IPN, mayor of Hancesti Alexandru Botnari said the competition’s circuit is only one of its kind in Moldova and was authorized by the specialized European federation. “We will have participants from Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia and other countries. For us, the Hancesti mayor’s office, this championship became a tradition already,” he stated.

President of the motocross sports club “Enduro-Cross” Nicolae Cociu said the circuit is 1.8 km long. The battle for the first place will most probably be between the athletes from Romania and Macedonia, who, during the previous nine championships, went close to each other. The championship will be organized at a cost of about €80,000. Moldova will be represented by six athletes from Chisinau – by one in each category – and by athletes from Bender and Cahul.

Secretary general of the Motocross Federation of Moldova Alexandru Briuhov said the championship hasn’t been held for two years owing to the lack of funds, but, owing to sponsors and the Hancesti mayor’s office, the necessary financial resources were identified. Public access to the championship is free.
