A motorcyclist aged 23 from Radeni village of Calarasi district died after he collided head-on with a car near Cornova, Ungheni in the evening of February 2.
Contacted by IPN, Uliana Catan, press officer of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, said the collision happened when a 31-year-old man driving a car shifted to the opposite direction lane without making sure it is safe. As a result, the motorcyclist died on the spot. It is not yet known at what speed the two units of transport travelled and if the divers were under the influence of alcohol.
The mayor of Radeni Liuba Jardan said the young man used to travel at high speed without a crash helmet.
If the driver of the car is found guilty of causing the accident, he will serve up to seven years in jail.
