Motion on European integration sector fails

The simple motion concerning the internal and foreign policy on European integration, of which Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca is in change, failed. The MPs on March 16 rejected the simple motion proposed by the Communist and Socialist MPs. During the debate on the motion, Speaker Andrian Candu formulated warnings for the violation of the Parliament’s regulations by MPs who gave speeches. A Liberal MP had his microphone at the central rostrum disconnected, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca thanked the authors of the motion for the invitation to debate several subjects of national importance, noting he perceived he motion as a preoccupation and support for Moldova’s European course. He said that when he took up his duties, the intensification of communication with decision makers of the European Union and the EU member states was his key priority as Moldova can enjoy greater understanding and support from the European partners by such an approach only.

Speaking about Romania’s role in supporting the European course that was invoked in the motion, Iurie Leanca stated that this is important, if not decisive. He referred to the projects financed by the neighboring state, such as the kindergartens, school buses and gas pipeline, which help modernize and Europeanize Moldova.

In his speech, Socialist MP Bogdan Tirdea said the freezing of the first tranche of the EU macro-financial assistance and the continuation of the shameful PACE monitoring show that the county does not have chances to integrate. The EU’s critical position is normal as a series of illegalities were committed in Moldova under the EU’s flag, including the banking fraud.

Head of the Communist group Inna Supac stated that Iurie Leanca, together with his team, betrayed the state interests of Moldova when the Association Agreement with the EU was signed. The European integration sector is managed by a discredited person who signed dubious, if not criminal decisions. The Speaker warned the MP for using insults and for not obeying the regulations.

Liberal MP Ion Apostol said the simple motion examined today is a new farce aimed at distracting the people’s attention from the banking fraud. It is a PR action that was designed by the staff of the Democratic Party and implemented by the opposition of the left. His microphone was shortly disconnected. Andrian Candu explained that the MP didn’t refer to the subject of the motion.

Eugen Carpov, of the European People’s Party Group, said that by this motion, the Socialists and the Communists began their election campaign and want this way to distinguish themselves before the elections. The motion also shows that the rapprochement with the EU bothers the forces that are hostile to Moldova. Iurie Leanca, together with his team, made progress in improving the country’s relations with the development partners and, owing to this, Moldova has now investments in the economy, renovations and free movement in the EU.

The motion was supported by only 25 MPs of the 79 attending. A number of 40 votes were needed for this to be adopted.
