The Government led by Ion Chicu survived the no confidence motion proposed by the MPs of the PPPDA. Only 46 MPs voted in favor at a time when such a motion is adopted by 51 votes for, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that as part of the governmental team, he does his best to cope with the situation. As long as he manages the Government, he will do his utmost not to allow the situation to worsen further. The Premier criticized the behavior of the MPs in the assembly hall. “We should be ashamed of what we showed in Parliament today. If we are not ashamed, the people in this country will not live better,” stated the Premier.
Alexandru Slusari, who heads the parliamentary group of the PPPDA, criticized the Government for its inaction during the pandemic. He said the Government declared the state of emergency without having an anti-crisis plan and consequently, many doctors became infected, while some died. The SMEs are not supported. The Government halved the incomes of elderly people. Money wasn’t allocated to farmers for the losses caused by the drought. Financing agreements and the Russian loan that was negotiated inappropriately were lost.
Lilian Carp, of the PAS group, noted that the current Government is the electoral staff of Igor Dodon, while the head of the Pro Moldova group Adrian Candu stated that many of the Cabinet members should and will answer for the committed illegalities, whereas the Government should answer politically for the lack of respect for the Republic of Moldova.
Shor Party MP Marina Tauber said the Government uses the state funds in the personal interests of Igor Dodon and the increased salaries or allowances will be provided closer to the day of the presidential elections so as to gain political benefits.
The Democratic leader Pavel Filip said the Democratic MPs will not support the motion as they do not want the thieves of the billions to come to power. He noted that one cannot build Europe at home and cannot come closer to Romania together with thieves, corrupt persons and bandits. “Until we do not get rid of them for good, we will not have Europe at home.”
Socialist MP Vladimir Golovatiuc said that even the poverty level rose during the pandemic, they managed to ensure stability and a vote of no confidence to the Government will not bring results. His mate Vlad Batrîncea praised the Government for having the courage during the pandemic to terminate the contract with Avia Invest and to return the airport to the people.
President Igor Dodon had a comment after the vote held in Parliament. “By today’s motion of no confidence, the opposition showed that the name Alliance of the Chaos perfectly fits it. The four parties that formed it - the PAS, PPPDA, the pro-Plahotniuc Party and the Shor Party – tried to hide the failure and humiliation witnessed today by invented justifications, by provocations that are degrading for the legislative body and by populist speeches,” President Dodon wrote on his Facebook page. “But today the oligarchs were taught a lesson – that they cannot buy everything and everyone. I hope Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase, owing to this humiliating experience, realized that it wasn’t worth voting together with the mafia groups represented by Pro Moldova and the Shor Party, together with the thieve who stole the billion, and that it wasn’t worth spoiling their names when falling into this trap.”
