The simple motion against Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari wasn’t supported by the majority of the MPs attending the July 15 sitting of Parliament. A number of 23 MPs of those attending voted in favor at a time when 35 votes were needed for the motion to be adopted, IPN reports.

In his report in Parliament, Vladimir Cebotari said that progress has been made and political will is needed for achieving the objectives of the justice sector reform. During the last six months, since the Filip Government took over, it has been proven that there is such will.

Socialist MP Vasile Bolea said the minister of justice does not have time for the justice sector reform because he has to run businesses in other areas, such as the aviation sector. The minister denied the MP’s accusation, saying he is fully devoted to the work at the Ministry. He invited Vasile Bolea to come to the Ministry of Justice for at least a week and see what he and his team do.

Vladimir Cebotari added that the speculations about the airline founded by his family were aimed at discrediting him and his family decided to withdraw from the administration of this company.

The leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Tudor Deliu said that from professional viewpoint, Vladimir Cebotari only changed sectors, moving from the transport sector to the justice one. He accused the minister of being biased and of intentionally banning a meeting in prison with MP Vlad Filat, who was recently convicted of influence peddling and passive corruption.

The Socialists’ simple motion against the minister of justice is the sixth that has been rejected since May.
