The Edelweiss Foundation has launched a new social project in support of the mothers and children of the Republic of Moldova. On July 12, 2016, Edelweiss started to distribute boxes with things for newborns at the maternity hospital of the Mother and Child Institute in Chisinau, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Foundation and a message placed by its founder Vlad Plahotniuc on social networking sites.
Each box with baby products contains a set of things needed for looking after babies during the first months of life, including diapers, cotton bodysuits and special detergent for washing baby clothes, nasal aspirator, balms and unguents tecommended during the baby’s first months, a pacifier and a special mattress and blanket. “A novelty is that the little mattress can be used in the box in which we collected all the things we offer to mothers. Thus, during the first months of life, the baby can sleep safely on the mattress provided together with the box. We think this is useful to mothers,” explained the executive director of Edelweiss Lara Moraru.
The boxes with baby products will be offered by Edelweiss to all the children born at the maternity hospital of the Mother and Child Institute. On the occasion of the launch of the project, there were donated 60 such boxes, for all the babies in the maternity hospital. From now on this aid will be offered on each birth.
“What we did together with Edelweiss was to borrow a nice idea used in many countries, where boxes with things for newborns are offered through national programs financed by the state. For now, this project includes the distribution of the box with baby products in the biggest maternity hospital of the country, during at least 12 months. I think this assistance is welcome and the initiative deserves to have a future and I hope that the state can identify the money needed to take over this initiative and make it permanent and nationwide,” Vlad Plahotniuc wrote in a message on his Facebook page.
“We implement this new social project at the maternity hospital of the Mother and Child Institute with which we cooperated fruitfully in the past too. After the unprecedented modernization works executed at this hospital with the contribution of Edelweiss through the campaign “Revive Moldova”, we come with a follow-up by making donations to newborns,” said representatives of Edelweiss.
