Most water meters sold in Moldova do not meet technical norms

About 90 types of water meters are sold in Moldova, but most of them do not meet the technical conditions stipulated in the legislative documents. As a result, a part of the consumption is not measured, said the director for customer relations of Apa-Canal Chisinau SA Mihai Golban, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Golban said that the supplier will inevitably demand that these types of meters be replaced in compliance with the new Government regulations concerning the acquisition, design, installation and utilisation of water metering equipment that took effect on November 29, 2007 The regulations say that the used meters that meet the stipulations of the normative documents and the technical conditions imposed by the service provider will be further used until their working life expires or until they break up, by systematically verifying them. The water meters that do not meet the indicated requirements will have to be changed with new ones by the service providers under contract for a charge for servicing meters in apartments, which will be approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council, or at the consumers’ expense, as they want. Those that will not want to pay a monthly charge for having their meters checked or replaced will purchase new meters according to the technical conditions imposed by Apa-Canal Chisinau SA and will pay the cost of the utilisation, installation, change and verification costs each time, in accordance with the present norms. The Chisinau Municipal Council must approve a tariff for servicing water meters by end-February. According to preliminary estimates, the tariff for servicing the water meters will be 4.46 lei. If the cost of the meter is included in the tariff, it will be 6.58 lei a month.
