Some 58% of the Moldovans consider that the European Union significantly contributes to the country’s development. The same opinion is shared by 44% of the respondents from the whole eastern region of the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI), except for Russia, shows the Neighborhood Eurobarometer on Moldova for Spring 2014, IPN reports.
According to the survey, 59% of the Moldovans consider the EU is an important partner, up 4% compared with the first survey of this year. The number of those who believe that Moldova and the EU share enough common values to cooperate rose by 6% to 54%. Half of the respondents believe that the European Union brings peace and stability in the region, compared with 47% in the previous poll.
42% of the Moldovans have a positive opinion about the EU, 28% have a neutral opinion, while 25% have a negative opinion. The EU inspires more confidence (51%) than such international institutions as the UN (40%) and NATO (30%, up 4%).
60% of the respondents believe that Moldova has good relations with the European Union, as against 53% in the eastern region of the ENPI. 16% of the Moldovans consider these relations are bad.
The survey also measured the level of satisfaction with life. 56% of the respondents said they are dissatisfied with the living conditions. Only 30% of the Moldovans believe that things in Moldova go right. 82% consider the economic situation is bad, while 22% expect the worst as regards the jobs situation. 80% are dissatisfied with the way democracy works in Moldova.
The poll was compiled based on 1,017 interviews carried out between May and June this year. The Neighborhood Eurobarometer is a project financed within the Regional Communication Program of the EuropeAid Cooperation Office by which opinion polls are conducted and the mass media are monitored in 16 partner counties, in the states covered by the European Neighborhood Policy and Russia.
