A team of volunteers of the Party of Socialist as of July 9 will translate the most important documents and relevant information about the municipality into the Russian language, the leader of the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council Ion Ceban was quoted by IPN as saying in a news conference.

The councilor said the measure is taken in a move to ensure broader access to information of public interest for the capital’s citizens. This is an objective necessity that derives from the permanent discussions held with residents of Chisinau. These constantly warn about the serious problems they face in the relationship with the municipality or when they want to collect facts about a subject related to the activity of the City Hall because they do not know the official language.

Ion Ceban also said it is not about political or electoral plans as some hurried to interpret the given initiative in elections. “Our duty is to ensure all the citizens’ access to information, regardless of the mentioned aspects. As the municipality does nothing in this regard, we decided to solve the given problem with our own forces,” he stated.

According to the Socialist councilor, they are considering the possibility of creating the English version of the Chisinau City Hall’s website so as to ensure access to information for those from abroad as well.
