More than 400 detainees in remand centres will be able to exercise their right to vote

The persons held in pre-trial detention centres in Moldova, who have not received final sentences, will be able to participate in the local elections held on Sunday, June 3. According to the press centre of the Department of Penal Institutions, 405 convicts will be present at the polling stations opened in five remand centres located in Moldova. Voting stations were opened in the remand centres in Chisinau, Balti, Tighina, Cahul and Rezina. The citizens of Moldova are going to elect today more than 900 mayors and more than 12 thousands local councillors for a four-year term. The most voters – 570 thousands – are expected to participate in the elections in Chisinau, where 285 polling sections were opened. At the same time, more than 100 voters are registered on the voter rolls in Balti, and about 80 thousand citizens are registered on the voter rolls in Orhei, Cahul and Hancesti districts. According to the Central Election Commission, almost 300 thousands citizens who have the right to vote are abroad.
