More students

A number of 62,300 young people will be admitted to education institutions this year, by 30% more than in 2007, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the admission plan for 2008 approved by the Government, 25,360 persons will be enrolled into higher education establishments, in the first year. The studies of 10,758 out of these will be financed from the budget. The number of students that will study under contract was reduced by 4% on the year before. Only the state institutions will provide budget-financed places. The number of places under contract in these institutions will be 11,307. Up to 3,295 students will be admitted to private higher education institutions. The secondary technical education institutions will provide 12,511 places, including 7,066 financed from the budget and 5,445 on a contract basis. This is by 1,446 more than in 2007. The secondary vocational education establishments will enroll 24,345 persons. As many as 235 persons from other states will be admitted to studies in Moldova under intergovernmental agreements. The quota remained the same as last year. The number of places at a number of faculties will be decreased by 30%. Among these are the departments of foreign languages, international relations, polythology and law. At the same time, the number of enrolments to pedagogy, agriculture and arts will increase.
