Eight more Soviet 152-caliber shells have been discovered at the bottom of the lake in Valea Morilor Park. The information was made known at the May 10 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Chisinau police chief Silviu Musuc said 87 shells have been found in the lake so far. All the shells were destroyed at the Bulboaca range.
Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the works to remove the mud from the zone near the River Dambului were resumed last week. There are no archeological excavations and no munitions were found there. The demining works in the area of Moldexpo, where the shells were discovered, go on. The works to drain the lake and remove the mud will be completed by the end of summer.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the conditions of the investment project for the park have been formulated. A tender contest will be held to invite tenders for laying out the lake area, where there will be built a recreational area with a beach, a hotel with a restaurant, an aquatic center, a theater, two sports clubs, a business center and a shopping center.
The lake in Valea Morilor Park started to be drained after all the fish there died in 2006.
