More reports of sexual abuse at summer camps

The recent reports of sexual abuse at the summer camp Andries in Orhei are not singular. Daniela Simboteanu, the director of the National Center for Child Abuse Prevention, has told Info-Prim Neo that over the course of last year the Center received 5 complaints of this kind from the parents who took their children to camps, and all of them proved true. This year, there are already 4 cases reported. There is also an increased tendency as regards cases where older children commit sexual abuses against younger children. Society doesn't yet fully understand the severity of the phenomenon and the risks faced by the children, said Daniela Simboteanu. According to Daniela Simboteanu, the factors leading to these cases are uncensored television footage, magazines with erotic and violent content, and the internet. Also, the peculiarities of the children's age are not taken into account when the minors are left unattended. Police initiated an investigation after the parents of two children, ages 7 and 8, reported that their children had been sexually abused by a 10-year-old boy at Andries summer camp.
