More informational support provided to Moldovan MPs

The European Information Centre of the Committee for Foreign Policy and European Integration of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was opened on October 29, 2007. The centre aims to inform the wider public about realities in the EU and Moldovan Parliament’s actions towards Moldova’s integration into the European Union. Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu stated that this Centre will serve as an important informational support for all the members of Parliament. The centre will contribute to the activity of the Parliament in general and of each interested MP, Lupu mentioned. Head of the for Foreign Policy Committee Grigore Petrenco affirmed that the centre will provide additional information for both the members and the staff of the parliament, as well as for the public, having a library with books and foreign press which is not available elsewhere. A webpage was also launched to serve the same purpose – www.euroinfo.md. The inauguration of the centre is part of the concept of cooperation between the Parliament and the civil society, the MP concluded. Dimitrios Bakolas, head of the Greece-based European Profiles Organisation pointed out that the opening of the Centre with the support of the Greek Government is part of the aid provided by Greece to Moldova in its path towards democratisation and European integration. EIC has been opened within framework of the “Strengthening the Parliamentary Functiona in the Republic of Moldova” Project, co-funded by Hellenic Aid of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by Athens Network of Collaborating Experts in partnership with the Committee for Foreign Policy and European Integration of the Moldovan Parliament.
