As many as 5,372 children go to community centers in Chisinau at present. The parents of 3,599 of these are abroad, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Municipal Division for Children’s Rights Protection. The number of children placed in such centers in the first half of this year has increased compared with the corresponding period last year. But the number of visits to the centers has also raised – 11,063 as against 10,847 in the first half of 2008. The Division said that the number of clinics and workshops has decreased by about 20 units as some of the centers are under repair. However, the teachers organize different cultural and sporting activities in order to attract more children abandoned by their parents. Over 500 activities of the kind have been carried out this year. The community centers work mainly with donations from NGOs and money provided by international programs.
