The monument to victims of the Stalinist repression will not arrive in Chisinau by July 6, when it is commemorated the  second wave of the deportations of 1949. According to the head of the Construction Division Roman Sofroni, the delay is due to problems that appeared in the process of assembling the memorial, IPN reports.

In the July 1 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Roman Sofroni said they initially planned that the monument that was cast in bronze in Minsk will be delivered by pieces. But it was later decided that the monument should be assembled there so as to ensure the higher quality of the works. A number of problems appeared during the welding process and additional time is needed to remove them.

Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca asked laying emphasis on the quality even if this will lead to the postponement of the unveiling of the monument. He said the monument should be set up by September 1.
