The monument in memory of the victims of Stalinist deportations was placed in the square of the Railway Terminal in the morning of July 26. The works to put the monument up on the pedestal lasted for about an hour and involved ten workers and a crane, IPN reports.
Constructions Division head Roman Sofroni said that specialists from Minsk, who earlier cast the sculpture in bronze, helped assembly the monument. The pedestal is to be covered with Cosauti stone, as the base of the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great ad Holy in central Chisinau, and the area is to be greened. The monument will be unveiled after August 20.
The monument in memory of the victims of Stalinist deportations represents a bronze sculpture that is three meters high and 12 meters long. It weighs about 15 tonnes. The works to cast the monument in bronze were carried out in Minks, in stages, and lasted for about six months. The memorial was built at a cost of about 24 million lei, which was allocated from the municipal budget. The sculpture was designed by Iurie Platon.
