Monument of Onisifor and Octavian Ghibu could be removed from its place to an unknown destination

The monument of Onisifor and Octavian Ghibu located on Pushkin Street in Chisinau, between the Embassy of Romania and the National Museum of Graphic Arts could be removed from its place if the local authorities will decide at the extraordinary session on Thursday, December 14 to construct a storehouse on that land. The municipal councillor of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance, Oleg Cernei told Info-Prim Neo that a draft decision in this respect is prepared for the session of the CMC, which was requested by 17 councillors in order to discuss once again the issue of the two municipal stations. The cited source says that he accidentally discovered in a folder, including several draft decisions prepared for the session of the CMC, a draft decision about the land on Pushkin Stret, which will be attributed to the National Museum of Graphic Arts (MNA). According to the draft decision “in light of the request presented by MNA, official-report of the MNA session of February 13, presided by Vladimir Voronin, the land with an area of 1453 square metres is attributed for the construction of a storehouse for the preservation of the cultural patrimony with subsequent replacement of the monument according to the project”. The project is not specifying the place were the monument created by the Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Adoc will be moved to. The municipal councillor is puzzled about the fact that this project did not appear in February, when the decision was made but in the middle of the diplomatic war with Romania. Cernei considers that this act is neglecting the achievements of the two personalities of the Romanian culture and of the fighters for the national cause, Onisifor Ghibu and his son Octavian Ghibu, and is insulting the Embassy of Romania. At the same time, Cernei says that MNA needs an urgent reconstruction not a storehouse, which will not be able to the save the architectural monument of Bernardazzi. At the moment the building is in a deplorable situation and instead of solving the problems of the architectural and historical monument, which has enough spaces for preserving and presenting the cultural patrimony, the local authorities promote doubtful projects, provocations and defiance of the notorious Romanian personalities, Cernei considers, suggesting that in case the patrimony is so big, it can be deposited in the second building of MNA, the former Herta house, art monument that is gradually falling apart.
