Monument erected in memory of major investor

One of the biggest investors in Moldova, Kelley Grains, the founder of the joint stock enterprise “Elevator Kelley-Grains”, will have a monument in Causeni. The official inauguration that took place last week was attended by US Ambassador in Moldova Michael D. Kirby. The authors of this idea consider that the monument is a sing of recognition and appreciation of the enormous contribution of the American businessman to the Moldovan agrindustrial sector. The Causeni-based enterprise is using advanced technologies of soil processing. At present the elevator deals with purchasing, processing and transporting grains, pea and sunflower. The enterprise also owns a bird farm, a porcine farm, an apiary and rents plots for farming. President Voronin, attending the inauguration ceremony, has highly appreciated Kelley Grains’s role in promoting entrepreneurial spirit in the agrindustrial sector of Causeni and in strenthening Moldova-USA relations. The head of the state has also mentioned the charity campaigns initiated by Kelley Grains in Causeni, especially during the last years of his life. The American businessman Kelley Grains was one of the ten wealthiest US citizens. The Causeni-based elevator is the biggest in Moldova and has a capacity of 135 tons, being the third world’s biggest. The enterprise was privatised in 1999 for MDL 9 mln. The American investor promised to invest additional MDL 100 mln in the next three years.
