Monitoring devices were discovered in the office of the director of the National Anticorruption Center as a result of searches carried out by order of the new director Iulian Rusu. “The materials concerning these searches were sent to prosecutors for being examined and for taking a decision,” NAC stated in a press release. It noted that the results of the examinations will be made known later.
Contracted by IPN for a comment, Mariana Cherpec, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, said the materials were received by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. The case is investigated by anticorruption prosecutors.
Iulian Rusu took up his duties on February 7 after being confirmed as the eighth NAC director by Parliament. The last few months, Rusu served as secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice. He has about 20 years’ working experience within international projects in case law.
When being presented to the staff, Iulian Rusu said that as NAC director he will lay emphasis on prevention and transparency, mostly there were large funds circulate. “I’m sure that the National Anticorruption Center has potential and this potential should be developed. We will focus on the fight against grand corruption and should also do away with the lack of integrity inside. We will have serious struggles and professionalism and uprightness should be at the core in this process,” stated Iulian Rusu.
