The state should work out a very clear Romanian language study program, preferential for other-language speakers. The authorities should also prepare a whole set of textbooks that are now absent or are outdated and do not meet particular local needs of ethnic minorities, stated Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, who left office for the electoral period, IPN reports.
“This implies the creation of working groups that will design the textbooks and this should be done swiftly. We are preparing such moves,” the official stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel. Monica Babuc also said that the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research will soon form a working group for studying the specificity of the promotion of the Romanian language in areas where ethnic minorities are concentrated.
According to her, in some of the schools of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, there are no Romanian language teachers. Furthermore, there are communities of up to 15,000 people where there are no persons who know Romanian. To ensure the other-language speakers study Romanian, young people from these communities should be enrolled at Romanian language faculties and these should later return home and teach Romanian or young specialists should be assigned to work in these areas in conditions of priority.
The suspended minister noted the prestige of the profession of teacher diminished because the young people prefer professions related to information technology and profit from the possibilities offered by the occupations that appeared during the last few years.
