Democratic MP Monica Babuc, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, said that a number of MPs of the Democratic Party (PDM) on the weekend of June 6-7 were offered enormous sums to leave the Democratic parliamentary group. She refused to give names, saying this should be done by the MPs who found themselves in the given situation.
“I know from my group mates that last weekend they were visited by envoys of other parliamentary groups who offered them generous sums for leaving the Democratic parliamentary group,” Monica Babuc stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.
The MP refused to say the exact sum offered to the Democratic MPs, but noted that the amounts were of up to 1 million lei. “Our colleagues told us that they were offered sums with several zeroes. Definitely, our colleagues had offers close to 1 million lei, I think”.
As to the most recent defection from the PDM, by MP Angel Agache, Monica Babuc said she saw him last at the group’s meeting after which Democratic MP Eugeniu Nikiforchuk announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
On June 9, Democratic MP Angel Agache announced that he decide to leave the Democratic parliamentary group and to join the PRO Moldova parliamentary group. This is the 15th MP who left the PDM.
