Monica Babuc: No new schools will be closed and a part of closed schools will be reopened

The Democratic Party decided to impose a moratorium on the optimization of schools so as to assess the process during the past ten years, since it was launched, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

According to Monica Babuc, the moratorium means that some schools that were earlier closed could be reopened given that their closing didn’t help save large sums, as it was anticipated. Also, the Education Code offers an alternative to the closing of schools – opening of district school branches. This way, the children will be able to study in the native village as teachers will travel to those branches to teach classes. The branches will not have administrative staff and the maintenance costs will be thus lower.

The minister noted that 217 schools all over Moldova have been closed during the past ten years.
