Monica Babuc: Education Code couldn’t become strategic view of state

The Education Code that was introduced in Moldova in 2014 didn’t manage to become a strategic view of the state, the political class, the central and local public authorities, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc, was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel.

According to the minister, many of the legislative provisions concerning the education system do not correspond to the realty even if education was declared a national priority. In Moldova, there was no clear view of how the education system should look like and the Education Code introduced in 2014 didn’t fully solve this problem. “The Education Code didn’t manage to become a strategic view of the state, the political class, the central and local public authorities. What we are trying to do now through the agency of specialists of the Ministry and experts who are attracted from the national and international education systems is to create this view,” stated Monica Babuc.

She noted that the first important steps have been already taken. The Ministry presented its viewpoint on the general education system. This week there will be presented the views on higher education, professional education and education throughout life. “All these views taken together, as they are indeed well-analyzed and calculated provisions, could represent that visionary solution as regards the development of education in the immediate period,” said the minister.

Principal of the Chisinau Lyceum “Mircea Eliade” Grigore Vasilache said it is the specialists who should state their viewpoints on education and the political class should become involved less here. “The specialists can help achieve those final results we want and the desired perspectives for our school,” he stated.

Journalist Oleg Cosyh said changes permanently occur in the education system and this is not good for students, parents and the system itself. Society can wait for a particular period of time for these changes to occur, but the people should be sure that a clear view on the education system will be ultimately worked out. “What we have now cannot be named education system. The world is a knowledge economy. We should gradually forget about industrialization as most of the money is earned with knowledge,” stated the journalist, noting the students should learn self-education from the primary classes.
