Money planned for repair of stairs of apartment building was used to manage pandemic

The money earmarked this year for repairing stairs in apartment buildings in Chisinau was redirected for managing the pandemic, the head of the General Public Amenities Division Ion Burdiumov stated for IPN. Last year, the municipal funds were used to replace windows in the stairs of several blocks.

Ion Burdiumov noted that the responsibility for maintaining the stairs and other common use places and also the internal piping system is borne not only by the housing sector manger, but also by dwellers. If there are areas owned by the Municipal Council in the building, the municipality should also contribute.

The situation is monitored by the municipal housing sector managing enterprises and heads of associations of dwellers. “There are a number of forms of ownership. Each block owner manages independently. If it’s an association, the association’s head, at the request of the house council or of the General Assembly, works out regulations based on which these works are executed,” explained Ion Burdiumov.

He noted that even if there are no centralized data about the blocks that are in need of repair, there are many such buildings and these need primarily the windows to be replaced
.

Asked what works are done with the monthly payments made by dwellers for the service of the apartment building (1 leu/m2), Ion Burdiumov said this money primarily go to clean the yards and only an insignificant sum is used to repair and clean the stairs in buildings
