Money collected for flood victims will be used strictly according to purpose, finance minister
The money collected into the account designed for flood victims will be used strictly according to the intended purpose, Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta said in an interview for the national radio station, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the minister, about 28 million lei has been collected in the account so far. Both private individuals and legal entities continue to transfer money.
“There are persons who struggle to make ends meet, but donate by 5-6 lei for the people affected by floods. Others transfer hundreds of thousands of lei. It is important that the money go to meet the needs of the flood victims. The money is freed up only under Government Decisions. It is distributed to the district councils of the flood-stricken Hancesti, Nisporeni, Briceni and Cantemir. The lists of persons who need assistance are drawn up by the public authorities,” Veaceslav Negruta said.
He also said that the flood victims are given initially by 500 lei so that they buy the bare essentials. The other money will be used to purchase 72 houses. The houses for the other flood victims will be built by winter. The flood victims who do not want built or purchased houses will receive a compensation.
Veaceslav Negruta stressed that financial assistance also comes by intergovernmental ways and there have been identified budget resources.
The floods caused damage estimated at US$560 million.
