The participants in the Twin Hearts Festival observed a moment of silence in memory of Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici. Traditionally on November 15, the birthday of Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, the organisers of the Festival give flowers and award prizes to foreign singers who come every year to Chisinau to sing Romanian songs by composer Ion Aldea-Teodorovici, thus promoting intercultural exchange and keeping the memory of the beloved couple alive. This edition of the Festival, which is a special one as it marks 15 years since Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici were killed in a car crash, brought together 18 competitors at the junior section and 21 adult singers. The jury, chaired this year by People’s artist Mihai Munteanu, included 13 renowned musicians and figures from Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria. The Festival’s Grant Prix went to the Bulgarian singer Kremena Kreakova. The Junior Grand Prix was won by Odri Barca, representing Moldova. Academician Grigore Vieru, the Festival’s honorary president and also a member of the jury, said he felt wonderful to hear foreigners – Russians, Bulgarians, Latvians, Ukrainians, and other – singing songs in Romanian. Opera singer Mihai Munteanu, who chaired the jury, remarked that it was very difficult to choose the winners, as this year’s competitors have been really great. But the greatest joy is that the music of Ion Aldea-Teodorovici is still popular, the artist concluded. Cristofor Aldea-Teodorovici, the chairman of the Twin Hearts Foundation, the president of the Festival and the son of the late great artists, thanked the audience and singers for keeping the music of Doina and Ion Aldea-Teodorovici alive in everybody’s hearts and for not letting their art be killed by time. The awarding ceremony of the Twin Heart Song Festival takes place every year on November 15. Doina Aldea-Teodorovici would have turned 49 this year.
