Moldtelecom - promoter of telecommunications development in Moldova
National telecommunications operator Moldtelecom registered a significant growth in the first half of the year. The company invested a lot in the development of fixed and mobile telephony, Internet IP TV and other services, Info-Prim Neo quotes a press release of the company.
One important step was providing the conditions for the improvement of competition on the local telecommunications market by offering opportunities for access and interconnection to alternative operators.
Half of the investments were made in the improvement of broadband equipment capacity, connecting apartment blocks to the FTTx network, developing modern NGN technologies, implementing the IPTV platform and modernizing the fixed telephony network.
Moldtelecom is the only Internet provider in rural areas.
The current transport infrastructure of the company allows Moldtelecom to offer 20% of its capacities for the access of alternative operators. The Product Strategy for 2010-2014 stipulates the improvement of the diversity and quality of services, of the relationship with clients and the implementation of new business technologies.
With 1.6 million customers, Moldtelecom confirmed its top dog status in the first half of the year. During this period, the enterprise contributed to the state budget and social insurance fund with 331.5 million lei.
Moreover, Moldtelecom remains one of the most efficient state-owned companies, bringing the highest dividends of all the enterprises subordinated to central or local public authorities- 192.85 million lei.
The telecommunications operator is the biggest state-owned company with over 5000 employees and is constantly helping the development of Moldovan society through various social projects. Moldtelecom supports the social integration of needy or elderly people and provides financial support for education, cultural, sport or religious institutions. 4 million lei were allotted in this regard in 2010 and another 800,000 lei have been spent on social projects this year.
One of the most important projects developed by Moldtelecom in 2011 is the social responsibility campaign “One call- one hope”. It provided five social institutions with unlimited access to free communication by installing public telephones. The beneficiaries were the Republic Asylum for Elderly and Disabled People in Chisinau, the NEOUMANIST Association in Straseni, the District Maternity Hospitals in Ungheni, Cahul and Edinet.
