Though the European Union full liberalized its market for Moldovan wines from this January, the Moldovan producers exported by about 3 million liters less wine than last January.
According to the data provided by the Marketing and International Relations Division following an enquiry by IPN, 6.5 million liters of wine to the value of over US$6 million were exported to the EU in January 2014. In the same period of 2013, there were exported 9.19 million liters of wine to the value of almost US$11 million.
Moldova exports no wine to the Russian market following the ban imposed by Russia last September. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov has told IPN that the Russian authorities haven’t yet explained why they do not accept the Moldovan wine.
The calculations done by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry last yearend show that Moldova sustained losses of US$20 million after the imposition of the Russian ban on Moldovan wine imports.
