Moldova’s Waters Agency will sue Omega for misinformation
Moldova’s Waters Agency is preparing the documents needed to sue the news agency Omega for premeditated misinformation by presenting statements taken out of context in the case of the film in which it is accused of intentionally bursting the levee in Nemteni. Related statements were made by the head of Moldova’s Waters Agency Mihai Penkov in the Public Life program on Radio Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mihai Penkov, alongside other participants in the program, denied Omega’s assertions that the levee was blown up as a result of an agreement with the Romanian authorities in order to save Galati town from inundation. He said that according to geological researches, the levee burst owing to the stratum of sand situated below the stratum of earth, which has a hydraulic connection with the water of the Prut River. Also, the levee is very old as it was built in the 1970s.
Valentin Dediu, vide director of the Information and Security Service, referred to the statements made by inhabitants of Nemteni, who said their homes started to be flooded before the levee burst. He said the film presented by Omega is a rumor and attempt to misinform the people.
Prosecutor of Hancesti district Aurel Burlacu said there is no proof that the levee was destroyed intentionally. According to him, an explosion would have left a lot of traces.
Earlier, the candidate for MP on the Communists Party’s list Alexandru Petkov, the head of Omega news agency, presented a short film according to which the levee in Nemteni was burst by the Moldovan authorities under an understanding with the Romanian authorities. The Moldovan authorities denied the accusations.
Last week, the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova showed a movie with the same protagonists as in Omega’s film, who deny having heard an explosion.
