Swimmers Tatiana Salcutan and Pavel Alovatki will represent the Republic of Moldova at the Olympic Games in Paris. The qualification was earned during the European Swimming Championships, which ended yesterday in Belgrade, Serbia, IPN reports.
Tatiana ranked 10th in the semifinal in 200m backstroke, while Pavel showed the best result in the 400m freestyle competition and was among the top 16 swimmers, taking the 14th place.
Alexandru Goryachev, president of the Independent Federation of Water Sports of the Republic of Moldova, said that the competitions were held in an open pool at an air temperature of 40°C, causing the athletes difficulties in adapting and influencing the results. Moreover, some of the athletes withdrew from the announced races. However, our athletes participated in five semi-finals, ranking among the 16 best athletes in Europe.
At the Championships, swimmer Denis Svet set a new record of the Republic of Moldova in the 50m breaststroke race with the result of 2.12.73.
So far, the team of the Republic of Moldova at the 33rd edition of the Summer Olympic Games that will take place in Paris between July 26 and August 11, 2024 consisted of 14 athletes.
