The system that ensures security in Eastern Europe no longer exists now that Russia attacked Ukraine. Thus, Moldova now has no guarantee as regards its military security. The partners from the West realize this and encourage the Moldovan government to make progress on the path to European integration, head of the People’s Force Party Nicolae Chirtoaca said in a news conference at IPN.
“The fact that they speak about the possibility of scenarios similar to the Crimean ones in Moldova arouses concern. The current administration didn’t fully understand this. In fact, they do not intend to transform the eastern districts into Crimea. This area has long ago become a Moldovan Crimea. In reality, they ‘Transnistrize’ Crimea. The separatist regime can be used as a bridge head for destabilizing the situation all over the country,” said Nicolae Chirtoaca.
According to him, the situation can be destabilized by stirring things up in southern Moldova. Another major problem is the fact that we remain in a sphere of propaganda marked by the media that is directly managed by the Kremlin. “Actually, this propaganda runs counter to our long-term national interests,” said head of the People’s Force Party.
He also said that superficiality, political myopia and inability to mobilize the country’s potential in order to protect it are the greatest dangers for Moldova. The current government continues the ‘client-based state policy’ that is counterproductive in moments of truth, when neither the EU nor the U.S. has the ability and military capacity needed to intervene and when they both declare that any methods will be used, except military ones, to defend the states that risk being subject to Russia’s influence.
In such conditions, Nicolae Chirtoaca recommends the Moldovan authorities to mobilize all the resources available to cope with the possible pressure on the part of Russia.
