In the third round of the World Chess Olympiad, the men’s team of Moldova lost 1-3 to the favorites of the tournament – the Russian squad, while the women’s team beat the squad of Nicaragua 3.5 -0.5, IPN reports.
The men’s team included grand master Viorel Bologan, Viorel Iordachescu, Dmitry Svetushkin and master Vladimir Hamitsevich. Viorel Bologan and Viorel Iordachescu tied. Of the women’s team, grand master Svetlana Petrenko tied, while grand master Elena Partac and masters Diana Baciu and Olga Hancu beat the opponents.
In the second round of the Olympiad, the men’s team of Moldova defeated the chess players of Zambia 3.5- 0.5, while the women’s team lost to Ukraine’s team by the same score.
In the fourth round, the men’s team meets the similar squad of Tajikistan, while the women’s team plays against the team of Iceland.
