“Moldova’s Railways” robbed of 2 million lei

The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC) started a legal case over the damage of 2 million lei caused to the state-owned company “Moldova’s Railways”, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CCCEC found out about illegal activities concerning passenger transportation. It identified dissimilarities in the data about the amounts collected from transporting passengers on the international train routes “Chisinau-Moscow” and “Chisinau-Bucharest” and about the crossing of the border by the given trains, provided by the Border Guard Service. During investigations, it was established that the give trains in 2009-2010 transported more than 23,000 passengers without tickets. As a result, damage of 2.225 million lei was done to the company. A criminal case was opened over damage caused by fraudulence or breach of trust on January 4. The persons to blame face a fine of 20,000 to 40,000 lei or up to three years’ imprisonment.
