“Moldova’s Post Office” to play indexed deposits to BEM depositors

The state-run company “Moldova’s Post Office” will accept applications and will pay the indexed deposits made by people in the former Sberbank (according to the situation on January 2, 1992). Thus, by amendments made by the Government to the Law on the Indexation of the Deposits Made in Banca de Economii (BEM) (according to the situation on December 12, 2002), the indexation process will continue even if the BEM is under liquidation, IPN reports.

The costs associated with the reception of applications for indexation by “Moldova’s Post Office” will be covered with state budget money and are estimated to total about 1 million lei a year.

Those who are entitled got about 690 million lei from the state budget by October 16, 2015, when the license of the BEM was withdrawn. In 2015, sums indexed at the first stage (1 leu:1 Soviet ruble for the first 1,000 rubles) were paid to the depositors born before 1991, while the sums indexed at the second stage (1 leu : 2.5 rubles for the rest of the sum) to those born before 1934 inclusive.
