Moldova’s position on situation in Ukraine must be more trenchant, analysts

The position of Moldova on the events in Ukraine and Russia’s involvement in this country should be more trenchant, stated analysts. In the program “Replica”, the analysts said that Moldova’s security is in danger given Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, IPN reports.

Anatol Taranu said that Moldova’s position should be more trenchant, underlining that the statement made by President Nicolae Timofti is relatively sterile. “We cannot limit ourselves to a statement only,” said the analyst, adding that what’s happening in Ukraine is a lesson for Moldova. According to him, in 22 years Ukraine could lend a hand for resolving the Transnistrian conflict, but Kiev often supported Moscow.

Oazu Nantoi said the dramatic events show that Moldova wasted over 22 years as it didn’t use this period to strengthen national security. “If something grave happens in Ukraine and the Russian troops from the Transnistrian region receive orders, they will be in Chisinau in several minutes,” stated the analyst, emphasizing that Russia wants both Ukraine and Moldova to be joined to the Customs Union.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integrator Iulian Groza said that Moldova, as a neighbor and partner of Ukraine, was for naming a new Government and subscribes to the international opinion that the conflict must be settled by dialog.
