The population of the Republic of Moldova is of 2 998 235, shows the 2014 census data presented by the National Bureau of Statistics on March 31. 75.1% of those surveyed said they are Moldovans, 7.0% said they are Romanians, while 6.6% said they are Ukrainians, IPN reports.
National Bureau of Statistics director Vitalie Valcov said the women represent 51.8% of the country’s population. In Balti, the ratio of men to women stands at 85:100, while in Comrat at 101:100.
The number of districts with a population lower than 50,000 increased to nine from six in 2004. Basarabeasca remains the district with the smallest population. Eighteen towns have between 10,000 and 20,000 inhabitants. In 2004 there were 22 towns with such a population.
The census covered 91% of the country’s population.
