Moldova’s objective to join EU in 2030 can be achieved only by concerted efforts, MEP

It is very good that the Republic of Moldova set a time limit for achieving the European integration desideratum and the objective to join the EU in 2030 can be achieve only by concerted and supported efforts, Romanian MEP Dacian Cioloș stated in the program “Global Impact” on TVR Moldova channel, referring to the seven-year term set by President Maia Sandu for Moldova to become an EU member, IPN reports.

“We in Parliament also discussed and asked the European Commission and the European states to set deadlines and objectives. Evidently, this period can be realistic if particular things occur in the Republic of Moldova and at European level staring with this year. Beyond the moment when the Republic of Moldova’s treaty of accession to the European Union is signed, it seems to me important, and this is the idea that I and my colleagues in the European Parliament support in Brussels and in Strasbourg, is that the integration process should be gradual and should begin before the signing of the treaty of accession,” stated Dacian Cioloș.

The MEP noted that when negotiations on particular chapters are completed, the legislation is approximated and the institutions in the Republic of Moldova are aligned with the European institutions, the Republic of Moldova can already benefit from particular European policies and even financing before the signing of the treaty.

Dacian Cioloș noted the farmers should not wait until 2030 to be able to fully benefit from the European single market, from subsidies for investment, from financial support. The same refers to other sectors of the economy which can profit from the European market, the right to free movement, the possibility of using communications/telecommunications without paying roaming charges.

The MEP believes the lawmakers in the countries that already negotiate the accession to the EU should attend the sessions of the European Parliament even if they will be unable to vote until the treaty of accession is signed. “Many things can be done to influence the European decisions in favor of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova even without the right to vote. When the European legislation is negotiated, politicians, representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova should attend the discussions, debates, presentations of amendment proposals. Observes can be also in the Cabinets of Ministers,” noted Dacian Cioloș.
