Moldova’s largest pediatric institution hasn’t seen repair in 30 years
The largest pediatric institution in the Republic of Moldova, the Institute of Scientific Research for Mother and Child Healthcare, hasn’t been repaired in 30 years. Moreover, the director of the Institute Ion Iliciuc told Info-Prim Neo his employees have the lowest wages compared to workers in other medical centers.
The Institute has 1005 hospital beds, a capacity of 1678 employees, 52 researchers, 311 medics and 672 nurses which provide more than 100,000 ambulatory examinations, while about 30,000 children are yearly hospitalized, according to Iliciuc.
He claims the institution had a 5 million lei budget deficit when he took charge. Iliciuc stressed that even the funding currently offered by the National Company of Medical Insurances isn’t enough for the treatments and examinations needed by children. Over the last 4 months, the number of patients has been higher than the NCMI estimated so that the Institute now has a 3 million lei debt.
During a meeting with Institute’s staff, on Medic’s and Pharmacist’s Day, interim President Mihai Ghimpu promised he would do his utmost to provide some financial support.
