Moldova's judoists bring two medals from World Cup
The Moldovan team won one gold and one silver medal at the World Judo Cup, which ended on Sunday, October 9, in the Azerbaijani capital Baku.
Victor Scvortov won the champion title in the 73 kg category, having defeated Georgia's Tengiz Paposhvili, Azrbaijan's Rustam Orujov, Italy's Marco Maddaloni and Turkey's Vanlioglu Hasan.
Igor Soroca took the third step of the podium in the 66 kg category, after three victories and one defeat, suffered against the representative of the host nation, Tarian Karimov, who subsequently became champion.
These results helped the Moldovan team advance in the world ranking list which is used to assign qualification places at the 2012 Olympic Games.
So far, Sergiu Toma is the Moldovan judoka who is credited with the highest chances to reach London, after he won the silver medal at the European Championships and the bronze medal at the World Championships this year.
